Cbank warns of new phony SMSs targeting e-store clients
MAGNITOGORSK, Chelyabinsk Region, Feb 16 (PRIME) -- The Russian central bank has warned of a new type of fraudulent SMSs aimed at clients of Internet stores, Artyom Sychyov, deputy director of the regulator’s security department, said late on Wednesday.
“They used to write that cards were blocked, and now they’ve started to write that you’ve made a purchase in a store, and the money was blocked. It’s a completely different turn targeting a completely different audience,” Sychyov said.
The regulator recommends to ignore such SMSs or call the bank in case of doubt.
The type of fraud using messages has evolved. If earlier it targeted more vulnerable people and those less familiar with information technologies, but now perpetrators focus on e-commerce audience.
